Education and Early Career

Helen Herbert's journey in law began with a strong foundation in education. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, where she distinguished herself as a Morehead Scholar. Notably, Helen was the first student from her high school in Pinehurst, North Carolina to receive this prestigious scholarship.

Building on her undergraduate success, Helen pursued her passion for law at Wake Forest University School of Law, where she earned her Juris Doctor (JD). Recognizing the importance of specialized knowledge in her field, she further enhanced her expertise by obtaining a Master of Laws (LLM) in Taxation from New York University School of Law.

  • Helen's professional career began at Mayer Brown LLP, a leading international law firm with over 1,900 lawyers. For seven years, she worked as an associate in the tax practice group, honing her skills and building a robust foundation in tax law.

  • Helen has gained valuable experience as an in-house attorney over the past decade. For a combined seven years, she worked with two large financial services companies, TIAA and Brighthouse Financial (a MetLife company). Most recently, Helen served as General Counsel for a family-owned real estate development company based in Wilmington, North Carolina.
